Instructions for Knitted and Crocheted Prayer Shawls

A Prayer to comfort you as you knit or crochet:

Grant me patience as I make this shawl, and bless my handiwork as it travels to bring comfort and peace to someone in need of your warm embrace. Amen.

KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Using # 13 needles ( 10.5, 11 or 12 may be used ) and 3 skeins of 4-ply yarn, cast on 63 stitches. The width and length of the shawl may vary----but should wrap around fingertip to fingertip and feel comfortable.

Pattern stitch:

Row 1---Knit 3, Purl 3.....continue this across row

               ending with Knit 3.

Row 2---Knit 3, Purl 3.....continue across row.

(Because of the odd number of stitches, the

knit stitches will fall over the purl stitches and

every row will begin with Knit 3.)

Continue this pattern until the piece measures 60 inch

-es and bind off. Trim with fringe by cutting 8-9 inch

lengths of yarn (wrap around book and cut loop). Fold

3 strands in half and pull through shawl edge using a

crochet hook, loop through and knot tightly.

Trim evenly.

               CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS

*Double crochet in next 3 chains, single

crochet in next 3 chains, repeat from *

              across row.

Row 2---Repeat Row 1 to desired size.
